Wow! I cannot believe how fast time flies!
This week was amazing! And definitely full of blessings. Tuesday we had the craziest wind that I've ever experienced. It was so powerful and I've never felt so weightless as the wind literally pushed me forward. The streets were so trashed and the power went off in our apartment for about five or six hours. It was so crazy but the President said it was just fine to work in so we did! Even with the threat of coconuts falling and hitting us on the head haha Luckily we survived the day with little injury. We also had the best lunch with members, it was with this young newlywed couple and they were so fun and cute. The best part of the meal though was for dessert we had Eggs and beans. Hahaha It was really a peach in yogart that looked like an egg and then chocolate covered raisins with chocolate that looked like beans. By far the best day this week was Sunday though. In the morning we got to speak in Sacrament Meeting which was a little scary haha I talked about Jesus Christ and how because of His love and His atoneing sacrifice and resurrection that we celebrated this past week we should try to be better and do more to show our love and gratitude for him. It is so great to be advancing in the language and being able to share more with members and investigadores. And after Church we had the baptism of Guadalupe!! Honestly I'm not sure how she was able to get permission from her mom to attend church and to be baptized...But I am so grateful she did! It was such a great day! She was so happy and I was beaming ear to ear to see her be baptized. Later we went on Divisions with Karen and Kenia - two girls in our ward who are preparing for missions. I was honestly pretty nervous to go on divisions when I'm so limited in my language but it was so fun! Karen is so amazing! We were able to go visit a lot of her friends and just people that she knew that might be interested in the gospel. Karen is going to be such a good missionary! Today we ate at Carls Jr with some other Hermanas and Hermano Estaban haha It was so weird, it felt like a Carls Jr in America and they had english music playing too so I felt right at home. Haha It was a lot of fun though and the food was so good! Just like the USA. :) This week was amazing! Everyday I feel so blessed to be serving here in Veracruz! Hermana Terry A Coconut that about hit us in the head. I hope you can kind of see how crazy the winds were by the trees haha And Guadalupes baptism :) Hola! It's so true that when you're feeling and doing your best that Satan starts throwing more rocks your way. This week was definitely full of rocks - but it was also full of many tender mercies and blessings as well. I love that everytime I start feeling even the slightest bit down that I have something happen that just reminds me of the love the Lord has for me and that I am not here in Veracruz alone, that He is with me every step of the way helping lift me up.
The biggest rock this week was Josefa. Josefa is the grandmother of Guadalupe. Guadalupe is 16 years old is the niece of Ruperto who was baptized last week. Guadalupe was supposed to be baptized yesterday and was so excited!..but Josefa threatened Guadalupe's mom that if Guadalupe was baptized that she would kick them all out of her house. It's defintely a big rock but as missionaries we never give up faith! Hopefully she can be baptized this week. Guadalupe is so determined and won't take no for an answer from her Grandma and her mom. One of the biggest blessings this week was that Javier who was baptized last week was offered a lot more money at his job if he could work on Sundays and he told them that he couldn't because he has new standards and that Sunday and Church is more important to him. I know the Lord has something even greater in store for them. It was just such a testament to me of his commitment and dedication to his baptismal convenant that he had made just days before. Yesterday we had 4 confirmations in Sacrament meeting and Ruperto was the only one on time so he was confirmed before the sacrament and right after Emanuel and his family came in and so his grandma Latisia ran up to the front to have him be confirmed as well and then while that was happening Margarita and Javier with their little girls came in but the Bishopric didn't see them so after the sacrament they confirmed Emanuel and then the bishop´got up to talk and it was just a mess haha and on top of that there was also a baby that needed to be blessed haha but all four were confirmed and the baby was blessed and all was well! haha Well I hope everyone has an amazing Easter this week! Hola Familia y amigos! Esta semana fue MUY Buena! I honestly had the best week ever! We had 3 baptisms this week and a wedding! I honestly never knew how much hard work goes into putting a wedding together outside the United States. It was such a headache and so confusing for me haha but luckily my companion knew what she was doing. Margarita and Javier are amazing! And they have the cutest little daughter Yaretzi and Yeritzia (Talk about confusing names! And people think the Ms in my family are bad!) They have been taking the missionary lessons for a few months now and go to church every week but never recieved the answer that the church was true. Finally they both recieved the answer two weeks ago but then the headache started of helping them live the Law of Chastity and getting married. There were so many prayers answered and so much help from people all over the state of Veracruz to get everthing in order and then on Thursday morning they were married in Jamapa and then in the afternoon they were baptized! It was honestly such a great day! I don't know if I've ever smiled as much as I did that day and seeing the change in them. It was so amazing and I cannot wait for next year when they go through the temple!
Last sunday I randomly got asked to play the piano in sacrament meeting. Haha The first hymn was a song that doesn't even exist in English - Thank goodness for Mrs. Terry teaching me how to sight read! Tuesday we had lunch with a member Israel and his family at a resturant. Israel was on the Mexican version of Dancing With the Stars and has a dance studio in our ward. It makes me laugh every time we walk by it because it's got the greatest dancing pop stars pictured in the windows...Michael Jackson, Madonna, Elvis AND The Mask. hahah Jim Carrey. Anyways Isreal is awesome and he took all four of us missionaries in the ward to a resturant where we ate sea food. He ordered for us and we all got this big bowl with all kinds of different fish but mainly shrimp and octopus. It's the first thing that i have not liked at all here...But I ate it! Most of it anyways haha Conference was amazing! It was so great and I honestly loved every talk! Hermana Jensen and I watched it in a different room in the chapel on a ward member's lap top in English which I was so grateful for. I honestly loved every talk and found so many parallels in each talk. I especially loved the Sunday morning session and after the session when we came out and met up with the ward members Mateo and Dulce were there! They are amazing investigators that we have been trying to get to church since we got here in Costa Verde. Dulce is 8 and is SO excited about baptism it is so adorable but Mateo doesn't ever want to go to church so they can't progress. Saturday night we visited and said that if they didn't come to church the next day we would have to stop teaching them which broke my heart! But sunday came and they were there! It was a conference miracle! He really loved conference and especially liked President Uchtorfs talk about Gratitud. And he is really excited to come back next week as well as Dulce! It was so amazing! And then after conference we had the baptism of Ruperto. Ruperto is someone we contacted in my first few days here and he has been so excited and ready for baptism from the start. It was so awesome to see him be baptized! I love being a missionary and playing a small role in the conversion process of people here, I feel so blessed and am so grateful for the opportunity to serve and be here in Veracruz! Hermana Terry |
