Adventures in Ixhuatlancillo Hello! This week was a crazy, crazy week. I already now it's going to be so hard to just leave Nogales behind. Especially when it's so close! But I am so excited to be here in Orizaba, Orizaba! Especially with Hna Zarate. She is amazing, I am so happy to be companions with someone who speaks Spanish again. I'm excited to progress even more in my Spanish! And Hna Zarate is such a great missionary. With a big testimony and a huge heart! :) The ward here is huge! And our area even bigger! There are about 300 active members of this ward (Which is a pretty big number for Mexico haha) The area is so big though that there are a bunch of little towns that are in the ward boundries - It's going to be great to get to know the area! There are 3 sets of missionaries here also - two sets of Sister Missionaries and then the Elders. The best part of this week was when we went to Ixhuatlancillo. This town that's about fifteen minutes out of the city. We went all four of us - Hna Skousen, Hna Orr and me & Hna Zarate to open the area. This little city has a bunch of natives, all in their traditional dresses and they also speak another language called Nahuac. They are the most accepting people. Every single person that we talked to gave us a reference of a neighbor or family member and let us right in to share our message. It was so great! Well I hope I have more interesting things to say next week! I think my emails are getting more and more boring. Oh well.. Haha I hope everyone has an excellent week! Hermana Terry Memories from Nogales... We passed this red fence every single day and I am just in love with it. Someday I'm going to have a red fence like this in my yard. Last picture with the best jóvenes in Nogales! Misael and Miguel Angel! Nothing like early mornings in ADO - Transfers at 530 in the morning when you're just moving about 20 minutes down the street aren't super fun. But at least I got to see some of the best sister missionaries out there! Hna Jensen, me, Hna Skousen, Hna Kind, Hna Orta, Hna Zarate (My companion! We somehow didn't take any pictures this week together...) And Hna Garcia
Transfers! This week was a week of miracles! I am so amazed by how many things just fell into place. Granted, things also fell to pieces but the blessings were there in every moment. I am so grateful the blessings of the Lord that we can feel and see in every minute of every day if we are truly looking for them and being obedient to the commandments. The biggest miracle of this week was Ivan. Ivan is an investigator that we've been teaching almost my whole time here in Nogales! I can't remember if I've talked about him in my emails but he has cancer. This week we visited him after about a week of not being able to see him and he is progressing so much! In his health, and especially spiritually. Wednesday he had another round of chemo so thursday we went to visit him. He was doing excellent! And he told us he knows know that the Book of Mormon is true. But that he still didn't feel well enough to go to church and sit in the uncomfortable seats. I told him I would go to his house and drag him and his couch to church if we had too! He told us he would do everything he could to go...Sunday in the morning we showed up to see how we was doing and his Mother-in-law told us he took a turn for the worst and that we wasn't going to be able to go. We left his house really defeated and headed to church. As the talks started I looked up and saw Ivan walk through the doors! It was the best feeling in the world! He only was able to stay the first hour but it was so amazing to see him walk in and sit down with his family! Tomorrow we have transfers! And I'm headed to Orizaba! Just the next area over, but it'll be really great to be close to Nogales! I'm going to really miss it! But for Zone classes I'll still get to visit! haha And also because I just got called as a Sister-Training Leader so I may be able to do divisions with Hna Jensen here in Nogales! I am seriously going to miss her as my companion! These have been the best few weeks! But I'm also excited to work with Hna Zarate - my new companion. She is amazing! She's from Bolivia too which is awesome! Bueno. Well that's all I have time for today! I hope everyone has a great week! Hna Terry Claudia, an amazing YW That I'm going to miss! And Hna Toñita! She is amazing! Like my mom of Nogales! :(
Quick UpdateHola Familia y Amigos! This week was great! We had amazing blessings and also amazing learning experiences (Such as when the cute old lady gives you shrimp and crab soup it might be okay to say no...) No, haha this week was great! Yesterday was a fun experience. We were walking to visit an investigator and she wasn't home so we started walking down a totally new road. As we were walking there was the most random flash flood and we started running for cover when a recent convert from the Elders started chasing us down on the street! We ended up almost right in from of their house when it started so we went and visited them for cover. Cristal and Manuel, with their adorable little baby. We also ended up meeting Cristal's grandma Raquel who invited us over another day to share our message. It was such a great moment that felt so directed by the Lord. Another miracle this week was Ana and Oscar! Last sunday we receieved the reference from the offices of Oscar and we ended up meeting his wife and two adorable little daughters! It was such an amazing experience! They are so ready for this gospel and we can't wait to keep teaching them! Sorry this is short! Thanks so much for all your love and support! I can feel your prayers every day :) Hermana Terry My last zone picture (minus a few companionships haha) Us in our hip jackets after we left Cristal and Manuel's house. They made us borrow their jackets from like the 80s and we felt pretty stylish. Bautismo de Miguel Angel! This week there isn't much more to say then this! I am so happy that Miguel Angel was able to get baptized! I remember when we first met Miguel about 6 weeks ago. We were trying to find Misael and we met his crazy brother instead. Miguel loved his "vida loco" And didn't have any desires to change. But it's just an amazing testimony of how much the gospel can change even the most stubborn person. He went to Misael's baptism and just kept coming to church after - he didn't know why he just felt the spirit tell him he needed to. He even went to young men activities when he was the only one there. And then last week he went to EFY and it changed his life. I am so grateful for this activity and I know it was exactly what he needed to receive the confirming answer to his prayers. I have never met a youth with such a strong testimony now and with such a desire to share it! This week we were leaving the church with Miguel, Misael and a few other youth and I told them they should never walk down the street of the church and pass someone without inviting them. Miguel went right to work when we passed a 12 year old kid with his horses! He invited him to church and Misael invited him to Mutual! These two boys are amazing! It's hard to believe now, that three weeks ago Miguel didn't want to get baptized because he thought that he couldn't join the army. Now he is so excited to join a different kind of army!
I don't have any more time but I hope everyone has a great week! I am so grateful for these opportunities to be a missionary and share this amazing gospel with everyone I can here in Nogales Orizaba! Hermana Terry |
