Happy New Year! This week was so great! Christmas in Mexico - For us missionaries was just a normal day. Except for the part where I got to talk to my family! The best 40 minutes of my day! The 24th we went to a big Christmas dinner that the District President put on. All the missionaries in the zone went except for 1 companionship. Even the senor missionary couple came - Hermano y Hermana Hollman. It was a great night - complete with Tacos (As we are in Mexico haha) Then Christmas we just did our normal routine!
This week we had the baptism of Victor. He's a 16 year old boy that has been faithful from the start. It was so great to be a part of his conversion process. This week was really rough for him. There is always a lot of opposition the week before their baptism and this week with it being Christmas it was even stronger. He had all his family there in his house being really negative and saying some pretty strong things - he almost gave in but then realized that this is not only what he wanted to do but what he needed to do. It was such a great moment to see him stick firm to what he knew was true. He even received bullying on Facebook - but told us that it didn't even matter and that in 2 years he's going on a mission! It's so amazing to be a part of the grand conversion process that people experience when they are truly prepared to receive it. This week the camera adapter won't work so you'll have to wait another week more for my awesome christmas pictures! But thanks so much for the Christmas love and I hope you all have an amazing New Year-s! Remember that it is a perfect time to reflect and make new goals. To remember that we all have a great potential and that when we set goals, make plans and then ACT - God will help us achieve things we thought we never could. Have a great week! Hermana Terry Merry Christmas!Welcome to San Andres Tuxtlas! Rama Jardin! It is SO beautiful here! I can't even believe that I've been blessed with the opportunity to serve here - The suspense will have to kill you all waiting for the chance to see all the pictures I will take here. Somehow this week I only ended up with a couple pictures.
But take comfort in knowing that I'll be passing my Christmas in a tropical green wonderland :) Karina's baptism! She is such an amazing girl! So excited about the Gospel and so excited to someday be a sister missionary :) Her mom is a member and went inactive and has been starting to reactivate with the help of her children who found the church and are showing an amazing example to her and helping her back. Her older brother also got baptized a few weeks ago. Also here you can see me and Hermana Ayala! She is from here in Mexico and is really awesome! I actually met her on my first day here in Mexico - she got here the same time. And I remember that on that first day when I knew nothing of Spanish she was so excited to talk to us in English - with the tiny bit that she knew from watching Friends. From that moment she left a great impression on me and I'm so excited for the chance we've got to work together. It'll be a great few weeks! Well I hope everyone has an amazing Christmas! Remember that He is the Gift and that the true reason for the season is in Christ. :) Thanks for the love and support! Hermana Terry I saw Hermana Guani in the ADO bus station. It's always so great when we have transfers and we get to see all the missionaries :) Farewell Orizaba!Hey! Well today we found out that it was my last sunday there in Orizaba. I'm going to an area that's called San Andres Tuxtlas - let's just say it's on every missionaries bucket list to go. It's the most beautiful area (And the waters of Mormon are rumored to be there!) So needless to say I'm very, very excited to go - but at the same time heartbroken to be leaving Orizaba. It's been my home now for so long and it's amazing how everyone really turns into your family. The blessing is that I know I'm leaving Orizaba in good hands - and that someday I'll be able to return :)
So this week was the baptism of Jordy! I can't even believe what a blessing it is to be able to teach people and see the gospel truely change their lives. When they let the spirit teach them - and then when they apply it. I know that in 1 year Jordy is going to be an outstanding missionary. And that even more in the future he'll still be enduring to the end! This week we also had our stake Christmas Concert we've been preparing! It was so amazing! So many people from Nogales and Orizaba were there and it was such a special night. All the missionaries were there and brought investigators. Dany - our profressional ward pianist brought some of his friends from his Orchestra and we had violin, cello, viola, bass, drums - It was definitely a hit. As well as the Stake Choir. It was an amazing night in which we could just remember our Savior Jesus Christ and the true gift of Christmas. We also shared the video and it was so great. So - sorry my email today is really rushed. We had so much to do today that nothing happened the way we wanted it to. But luckily we got a tiny, tiny bit of time to share at least some pictures. Thank you all for the amazing love and support. I hope you all have an amazing holiday season remembering the true gift. The true reason for the season. Hasta Luego! Hermana Terry Blessings and more blessings!Buenas tardes!
This week was so outstanding! I really learned that even though we as humans aren't perfect sometimes - it doesn't mean that God doesn't love us and that he won't bless us with what we need. Wednesday started out as one of the most stressful days that I've had in the mission. It seemed that there was no time for any of the million things we had to do...And everytime we tried to do something it ended up taking more time than it should have, or ended up not working out. It was just a really stressful day. We finally got to our lunch appointment and the Hermana wasn't there - we called and she had completely forgotten she was going to feed us that day and was out of town. We got back on the bus to go over to the Relief Society President's house... (warning - this update contains an embarrassing story about me) As we went to get off the bus, it jolted as I was stepping down from the steps and I went flying down onto the pavement. It happened so fast it went in slow motion - I somehow managed to do a few awesome rolls down a little hill too. - Don't worry, I got right up with barely a scratch on my knee (The only thing really broken being my pride) We started walking to get the Hermana's house and I just felt so much opposition! It was so heavy - So I said a prayer. What happened next? So the hermana made the most delicious food - making me feel right at home. Then we went to a lesson with one of our investigators Jordy that's getting baptized next week - He told us he hadn't read, he missed a couple prayers and that we wasn't going to be able to come to church. And we then had the most spiritual lesson with him - being able to find a whole bunch of worries and doubts that before we didn't even know were there. (And using 3 Nephi 13 ;) He truely then started to pass through repentence and we could just feel the change. It was one of those lessons that taught us as teachers something as well. At the end of the lesson he told us that the other day he told one of his friends "I'm mormon!" THEN we went and visited a menos activa that told us last week that she didn't want anything to do with the church because she goes to the catholic church with her dad. We just went in to say hi and sing her a hymn to keep animating her little by little - And we sand Luz del Cielo (Breath of Heaven in spanish!) And it turned into another amazingly spiritual lesson. She told us at the end - I'm going to church with you on sunday! Later as we were walking to our investigator Leticia's house we felt prompted to go visit an old reference that we had never been able to make an appointment with. We walked up and he was there on his computer so we started right off with He is the Gift - And then we really studied the scripture at the end - For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son. So that whosover believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life." It was such a powerful lesson. And the spirit was so strong again. When we invited him to baptism he couldn't reject what he had felt. Then we topped the day off by visited Leticia and singing Luz del Cielo for her as well. We are really excited to sing it at our concert this weekend! It was such a testimony to me that God loves us - and even when Satan does everything is his power to knock you down - and sometimes when he literally knocks you off a bus - That God will always bless us - and that one of the worst days can turn into one of the best if we just remember Him. Something I love of the He is the Gift is just thinking about how much of a gift our Savior was for us. How much love our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ have for us. And the invitation to all is that this Christmas season we can find that special gift we can give to them. It's a gift that is harder to think of sometimes but if we ask in prayer what he hopes from us - he'll help us know what it is that we need to give of ourselves to show our true love and gratitude for him. And then to top off my week of blessings - I don't know if you remember back when I was in Nogales and teaching Ivan - He was a great investigator who had cancer. After I left Nogales all I could do was keep praying for him. For his health and that the day of his baptism would someday come. And yesterday it did. And not only that but God blessed me with the opportunity to go to the most special baptism. I can't wait for one year from now when him and his family can go to the temple to become an eternal family. That is what this is all about, and somehow God blesses us - has blessed me - with the chance to share it with others. May we all find that chance to share the gospel. To share eternity with someone who God is placing in your path. Love you all! Thank you for your support and love and I hope you all have an amazing holiday season. To all my family and friends in finals and exams - best of luck! And remember the true reason for the season - ËL es la DÄDIVA Hermana Terry (Side note to mom and to who it may concern. The other day we were passing by a house and I heard the Piano Guys! I of course immediately stopped in my tracks and looked for a way to contact them without knocking on the door. At that instant a woman walked out and I started to talk to her. Even though she was too busy to listen in that moment, I know that for something she was listening to Piano Guys when I happened to walk by. God works in mysterious ways! And I like the way he works :) November Leader's meeting - now we're all there. Hna Ledek, me and Hna Jensen! :) I'm so proud of Hna Jensen for joining us as a STL! Orizaba Stake Conference! This week was one I'll definitely not forget. Thanksgiving and then the Orizaba Stake Conference! It was honestly such an amazing week!
I loved being able to go to the Stake Conference and see all of the ward members in Nogales and be able to see Miguel Angel and Misael! Miguel recieved the Melkezidek Priesthood! And they both come to church now in suits and ties. It was so great to see how much they have progressed and and they are still strong in the church! I can hardly believe that six months ago at the Stake Conference in May Misael went to church for the first time and now look at where he's at and his brother! It was honestly such an amazing moment! And they also had us sing in the Stake Choir. One hermana here asked special permission from the Mission President for us to sing and we even got amazing choir shirts that made me feel like I was part of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir! President Cordova came and spoke as well as a Area 70 - it was such a great conference. They really focused on Christmas and that El es la Dádiva! He is the Gift! We are starting to share this message with everyone who will hear it and it's been a really cool experience to see the reactions we get from people. If you haven't seen the video - just like every other missionary you know I'm sure - Here it is! http://www.mormon.org/christmas Thanksgiving was almost just a normal day - we had weekly planning and then went to our lunch - the Hermana Lili was so cute and tried her hardest to make us potatos and this other dish that was alllmost stuffing. It was so sweet and meant a lot to us. Even though it wasn't Thanksgiving with the famiy it was still a really special day. :) And then Hermana Johnson and I topped it off by making Mac and Cheese! Today my time's a little short because we got to spend just about all the day in the hospital with Hermana Ramirez and Hermana Amestica! Hna Ramirez got really, really sick so we ended up going to the hospital to help them. I hope you all have a great week! Thanks for all the love and support! - Hermana Terry |
