Hola!
I can't believe I've been out for 4 weeks already! It's been such a
whirlwind but I'm still loving it! This week has been crazy! So last
Saturday on P-Day we went to Brighams Landing which is just down the street
from the West Campus and we ate at a Philly Cheese Steak Place. It was SO
weird to be out around real people and to have to turn away and not watch
the Olympics that was on in the restaurant. It was so good to get away from
the MTC for a minute though and enjoy food that wasn't from the cafeteria.
Sunday we got to wake up bright and early to be at a meeting for the Sister
Training Leaders/Zone Leaders at 6:30. (As the Sister Training Leaders we
are basically just in charge of all the Hermanas in the Zone. We interview
them and then go to a lot of meetings with the Branch Presidency. We're
basically the eyes and ears for the Branch President since he can't always
be there or know what's going on. And we're just the ones that the Hermanas
go to if they need help or have problems I guess. It's been nice so far - I
really loved getting to know all the new Hermanas and I think we'll be
getting more on Wednesday so I'm really excited for that! Though sad that
we're losing one of our districts on Monday) The devotional on Sunday
night was awesome as well - We heard from Stephen B. Allan who actually
spoke to us on our first Sunday but I didn't care because he is a really
great speaker. We walked old Mormon ads and he related all the little
taglines to missionary work - It was a really fun and uplifting devotional.
So Monday we had class in the morning and taught a couple lessons and then
we headed off at 3 to go to Boise! We were SO lucky to get the Boise trip -
I still don't think the Elders in our District have forgiven us for going
on such an awesome trip without them. There were about 17 of us
missionaries who got to go and the bus took us to the Frontrunner traks
that took us to Salt Lake but when we got to the Frontrunner our Travel
Leader Elder Hughs didn't have our tickets or the cell phone. Luckily the
bus driver was able to call someone who brought those to us. Then we were
off! It was awesome being out in the real world as a missionary! It almost
didn't seem real! People were either coming up to us or avoiding us which
was a really strange feeling! All the missionaries went up to the top deck
of the Frontrunner and at one of the stops a group got on and started
heading to the top but when they saw all of us they whispered "Oh No! It's
the missionaries" and they backed down away from us. We were able to talk
to quite a few people though and that was really awesome. One of the
missionaries, Elder Jensen, even talked to a man in the airport for about
an hour and gave him a Book of Mormon that he had marked up and put his
testimony in. This man even said that he knew that them meeting in the
airport was no accident and that it happened for a reason. Being a
missionary is awesome! When Hermana Ledek, Hermana Jensen and I were in the
airport we got stopped by a couple and the man talked to us in Spanish once
he saw our spanish name tags and we actually understood what he was saying!
It was really awesome! And then we got to eat Cafe Rio! It was so
delicious. Maybe even more delicious than normal after eating cafeteria
food for so long. And while we were sitting there Michael Buble - Haven't
Met You Yet came on the radio...It was just a little tender mercy to be
eating my favorite food and listening to one of my favorite songs. Little
moments like that just really make me know that Heavenly Father loves me :)
When we got to Boise we drove to the Napa Mission home with Elder and
Sister Campbell senior missionaries from Boise. The mission home was SO
nice! It was like a mansion. It was probably the best sleep I've gotten
since I came here - even the carpet was amazing. We kneeled down to say a
companion prayer and we almost didn't get up because the carpet was so soft
haha It was so nice and President and Sister Cannon were so great to us! We
were so blessed! In the morning they fed us a huge delicious breakfast and
then we went to the Mexican Consulate for our Visas. We were there for
about an hour and a half and then we went to the Boise Temple! Our flight
wasn't until about 7 that night so we had a lot of time to kill so we got
to do a session at the Boise Temple. It is SO beautiful! I love going to
different temples and I really loved this one. It was just so bright and
beautiful - with a lot of stained glass and chandeliers. I love the temple!
It was so great to be able to go! We then went back to the Consulate to
pick up our visas and then ate at Chik-fil-a! We were pretty spoiled. After
lunch we went on a "Nature Walk" Where we saw a lot of fish, ducks, owls,
geese...It was awesome! It was almost more like a vacation than a trip to
get our Visas. I had so much fun and It also just made me excited to get to
Mexico! Everyone I saw I just wanted to talk to and get to know and share
the gospel with.
We missed the devotional that night (It was a member of the 70) BUT in the
airport that night in SLC we passed Neil L Anderson! We didn't get to talk
to him but he waved when he passed. It was so awesome! And tomorrow night
the devotional is with Matthew Holland so I'm excited to hear from my
second cousin (Right?) [actually her first cousin once removed] And the word on the street is that since it's Aunt
Pat's birthday tomorrow that She might be there and Elder Holland might be
there too. I think it could possibly just be hopeful thinking of the
missionaries and the choir directors but It would be so cool if they were
there!
This week the teaching was great - we starting doing TRC with an
investigator who may or may not already be a member - we aren't sure. It
was so awesome. I was so nervous but I just LOVED it. There was one point
in the lesson were the spirit was so strong I know he had to have felt it.
These moments make me so excited and confident in being a missionary. I
can't wait to get to Mexico!
Valentines was awesome here too - Hermana Ledek's family sent her Dora
Valentines so for gym we went around and stuck them in people's doors with
little notes on them. It was great!
Well I'm out of time but I hope everyone has a great week! I'm enjoying my
time here - it's been amazing!
